All eyes are on the Patriots (5-3) this week as they are fighting for first place in the AFC East. The Jets, the Bills, and the Patriots are all 5-3 heading into week 10. Everyone in the world wants to see the Patriots self-destruct and lose three games in a row, but is that even possible?
The Patriots are almost averaging 28 points a game but in the last two games they have only been averaging 17 and a half! The Jets are averaging 25 points a game but in their last two games they put up 27 points apiece. The last time the Patriots swept the Jets in the division was in 2007 when they went undefeated on the season. The Patriots and Jets have been splitting wins and losses to one another ever since and the Patriots won the last time they met in week 5.
Where has the Patriots defense been? Patriots’ fans have been questioning their defense all season long but at least they were creating turnovers earlier on in the season. Nose tackle Vince Wilfork has the second most interceptions on the team (2) behind Patriots’ corner back Kyle Arrigton (5). Wilfork hasn’t picked off a pass since week 4 and the Patriots can’t keep depending on him to intercept opposing quarterbacks going forward! Usually the Patriots offense can pick up the slack for their lackluster performing defense but not lately. Not only do the Patriots need to stuff the run all day against the Jets this week but they also need a new x factor on offense. That X factor is Chad Ochocinco. Rumors have it that Deion Branch is slowing down and has problems creating separation against opposing defensive backs. Unless this is a savvy way to trick the Jets on how to game plan against the Patriots defensively, I would take it for what it is worth. This may be Chad Ochocinco’s last chance to make an impact in a Patriots uniform and he better make the best of it! All said and done I think the Patriots have too many variables to overcome to get a win against the Jets this week. I like the Jets to win in this one, 24-16.
